Hunefer's Opening of the Mouth Ceremony (circa. 1300 B.C., IXX Dynasty.)

From Left to Right:

The Sem Priest wearing the Leopard skin can be seen holding a Ritual Incense Wand, used for offerings to the Gods as well as Hunefer's Spirit. In his Right hand he has the special 'hes' vase for the Corporeal equivalent of the Celestial lustration rite, the "njnj" Purification Rite performed by one of the Goddesses: Isis, Nephthys and principally Hathor.

Next come the male members of Hunefer's family, carrying the ritualised carpenter's adze used to open up the Mummy's senses. The forked "pesesh-kaf" wand is offered to the Mummy's Mouth.

In front of the Hunefer's Mummy are the Two Kites: female members of the family representing Isis and Nephthys wailing and crying over the body of 'Osiris' just before his Resurrection.

The Mummy or Khat is enfolded in the protective arms of the God Anubis and is wearing a blue lotus flower and an incense cone on its head. These party standards indicating that this is a joyful occasion! Indeed all the participants are smiling in anticipation of Hunefer's successful Eternal Rebirth in Fair Ament.

The Stela standing in front to the Tomb has Hunefer being greeted by the Osiris Lord of the West ;seated on his throne and bearing the Nekhakha (Flail) and Hekat (Crosier) of Rulership.
