Nakht and Thoth (5.2KB)"What you gain at one day at school is for Eternity! For the work done there is as lasting as a Mountain.
Do you not carry a sesh?
That is what makes the difference between yourself and a common oarsman.
Plunge into a Book as you would dive into water.
Poverty awaits those who fail to make the grade!

(Admonition to Scribes)

. . Senet (2.5KB GIF)Thoth was also associated with the Moon after having bested Khons at 'Senet'. A boardgame so popular that no-one needed to write down the rules, which have since been lost to Gimel! Modern versions exist which may bear some resemblance to the real thing. (New Scientist 22-29th December 1990). This gambling came about as a complicated sub plot to the original 'Dynastic Soap Opera'. (q.v. Nut). Senet was regarded (Chapter 17 of the Book of the Dead) as a symbol of the dangers and difficulties that the Soul of the Deceased must overcome in order to win Eternal Life. For this reason Thoth was depicted as the chronicler or measurer of Time and the notched palm wand became one of his symbols. He is thus the Baboon Deity associated with the Twelve Hours of the Night in the Amduat "Book of the Underworld"
